How space coast feline network began

In the 1960s–1980s, feral cats began to form colonies in the vast, undeveloped areas of Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Florida. As the population grew, efforts were made to trap and remove the cats—most were euthanized. Despite years of this approach, the colonies remained.

Heartbroken by the ongoing loss of life, a group of Kennedy Space Center employees decided to take action. In 1998, they founded Space Coast Feline Network (SCFN) to stop the euthanasia's and create a humane, effective solution.

Drawing on proven methods from around the country, SCFN began rescuing kittens, providing care for adult ferals, and establishing a temporary sanctuary at KSC. In the first three years, over 100 cats and kittens were saved.

Our Mission Today

Space Coast Feline Network (SCFN) has grown into a county-wide effort dedicated to the care and protection of Brevard’s community cats. With the help of compassionate volunteers and valued partners like Alley Cat Allies and Brevard County Sheriff’s Animal Services, we proudly provide:

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

Ongoing support for feral cat colonies

Education and resources for community cat caregivers

Our mission is grounded in compassion, backed by science, and fueled by the belief that every cat deserves a chance. Together, we’re building a safer, more humane future for Brevard’s feral and abandoned cats.

In addition to our community programs, we operate a private sanctuary for displaced feral cats, including those who are FeLV+, disabled, or otherwise in need of a lifelong safe haven.

Frequently asked questions

What is your sanctuary?

We are a private, volunteer-run sanctuary dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless, shy, feral, or special-needs cats. Many of our residents are not suited for traditional shelters, and we provide them with the care, space, and love they deserve.
At this time, we are not accepting new adult cats. Our main focus is caring for our current residents and working to place them into safe, loving homes.

How do I adopt a cat?

Start by filling out our adoption application online. Once we review it, a volunteer will reach out to discuss the best match for your home. Then we’ll schedule a visit to meet the cat(s) you’re interested in.

What is included in the adoption fee?

All cats are fully vetted — FeLV/FIV tested, examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered,and up-to-date on vaccinations. Our adoption fee helps us cover these costs and provide continued care for the sanctuary cats.

Can I adopt a shy or feral cat?

Yes! That’s our specialty. We’ll guide you through the process to make sure it’s the right match. Some cats are wonderful candidates for barn homes or very patient households, while others may need more time and socialization. We are always honest about each cat’s needs and will work to set both the cat and their new family up for success.

Do you have kittens available for adoption?

Kittens are only available at certain times. When we have kittens ready for adoption, you’ll find them at the Titusville pet supermarket inside the in-store Cat Tower. This gives the public a chance to meet them directly.
